Olive Chapel spelling bee

The fourth annual spelling bee at Olive Chapel Elementary School in Apex was on Dec. 6. Twenty-eight students from grades two through five participated. Fifth-grader Lila Corl won, and third-grader Suzanna Davydor was the runner-up.

The Learning Experience donates bicycles

The Learning Experience Academies of Early Education in Apex and Holly Springs donated 100 new bicycles to The Bicycle Man and other groups that give bikes to kids in lower-income families on Dec. 20. The school raised $3,000 with a candy drive, and preschool owners Jon and Darcel Cumbo matched the funds for a total of $6,000.

Scholarship contest

The Fuquay-Varina American Legion Post 116 will hold its annual High School Oratorical Contest at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at 6400 Johnson Pond Road. The St. Michael School in Cary will host open houses. Here’s the schedule:

Green Hope Winter Dance Concert

Green Hope High School’s Winter Dance Concert with performances by all dance classes will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the school auditorium, 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road, Cary. Admission is $5.

IMProv at Cary High School

Students will perform in competitive IMProv shows at 7 p.m. one Friday a month through May in the drama studio at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. Shows will be Jan. 24, Feb. 14, March 21, April 11 and May 16. Admission is $2.

Anxiety workshop

Wrestling club for future Panther Creek students

Panther Creek High School athletics and CREW Wrestling will offer a wrestling program for students in third through eighth grade who plan to attend Panther Creek High School.
