SWAC basketball starts

Conference play opens for four Southwest Wake Athletic Conference basketball teams this Friday. All four varsity and junior varsity Cary basketball teams will visit Green Hope, while the Athens Drive boys’ teams host Holly Springs and the girls’ teams are on the road.


Boys’ basketball: Sanderson at Apex; Panther Creek at Smithfield-Selma, 7:30 p.m.

Girls’ basketball: Apex at Sanderson; Panther Creek at Smithfield-Selma, 6 p.m.

Swimming: Holly Springs, Knightdale, Broughton and Southeast Raleigh at Triangle Aquatic Center.

Wrestling: Green Hope and Millbrook at Middle Creek, 6:30 p.m.; Panther Creek at Cary; Apex at Fuquay-Varina; Holly Springs at Athens Drive, 6 p.m.


Boys’ basketball: Fuquay-Varina at Harnett Central, 8 p.m.

Girls’ basketball: Fuquay-Varina at Harnett Central, 6:30 p.m.

Indoor track: Area teams at JDL High School Kickoff in Winston-Salem.

Wrestling: Green Hope and Panther Creek at Bull Durham Invitational hosted by Jordan High, all day; Athens Drive at Falcon Duals hosted by Southeast Guilford, all day; Cary at Wakefield Invitational, all day; Cary Academy at Tunstall High (Va.) Tournament, all day.

Events start 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Overtime points

• Cary wrestling finished first at the Jim King/Orange Invitational. The Imps had 237 points, beating runnerup Orange’s 225.5. Apex was eighth and Middle Creek was 16th. Cary’s Parker Ragsdale, Will Clark, Ke Wang and Mark Mulligan were individual champs.
