Athens Drive High School yearbook racks up wins
Athens Drive High School’s 2013 yearbook, The Torch, won the Tar Heel Award, the N.C. Scholastic Media Association’s top award.
In the large schools category, the yearbook also won the All North Carolina Award; first place in overall copy produced throughout the book and in overall layout; second in overall theme design, overall coverage and overall photography; and third place in cover design.
Individual yearbook staff members earning honors were Kaanchee Gandhi, Sarah Hume, Yasmine Inaya, Kevin Lee and Riley Nociti.
The book also won a Gallery of Excellence Award from Walsworth Publishing.
Triangle Math and Science students raise money for typhoon relief
The Triangle Math and Science Academy Chapters of National Junior Honor Society and Beta Club raised more than $1,700 for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in late November.
East Cary Middle School tours
East Cary Middle, a year-round school, will host campus tours for parents of prospective students at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at 1111 SE Maynard Road, Cary. An open house will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the auditorium; staff will answer questions and talk about the school’s STEM program that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math.
Winter Choral Concert
The Winter Choral Concert of the Cary High School Fine Arts Department will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the school’s auditorium, 638 Walnut St. The Women’s Ensemble, A Capella Ensemble, Concert Chorus and Cary High School Orchestra will perform. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students, with a family maximum of $15.
Cary High School book fair

IMProv at Cary High School
Students will perform in competitive IMProv shows at 7 p.m. one Friday a month through May in the drama studio at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. Shows will be Dec. 13, Jan. 24, Feb. 14, March 21, April 11 and May 16. Admission is $2.

The State Government Internship Program will accept applications from N.C. residents attending colleges, universities, technical institutes or community colleges until Monday, Dec. 16.
