Apex student earns honors at Howe School

Ashley Bockholdt of Apex received several awards for the 2012-13 school year at The Howe School in Indiana, where she is a cadet.

Ashley received the Military Order of the Purple Heart Award, the Haberly Award (silver), the Edward A. Khamis Award for Vocal Excellence, the Kurtis Most Improved Speaker Award (silver), the Major Frank M. Little Sr. Memorial Award for Excellence in American History, the Ranking Cadet Award for the 11th Grade (gold), the Best Spirit Award for A Company (gold) and the President’s Education Award for Educational Excellence.

Ashley, the daughter of Sven and Kristine Bockholdt, has attended Howe since January 2012.

Fuquay-Varina High School graduate receives scholarship

Olivia Jones, a Fuquay-Varina High School graduate, was chosen by the Southeastern Frontier of the National Association of the Buffalo Soldiers & Troopers Motorcycle Club to receive a $1,000 scholarship. She is a student at UNC.

Athens Drive students place in N.C. State Fair Graphic Design Competition

Christopher Bullock won first place in the State Fair’s Graphic Design Competition for ninth and 10th grades 9-10. Simone Larsen placed third and Abigail Clark placed fifth in the category for 11th-12th grades 11-12. Christopher, Simone and Abigail are students of Elizabeth Phelps Luna at Athens Drive High School.

West Lake Middle School PTSA fundraiser

The West Lake Middle School PTSA will collect donations to buy new computers and other technology for the school until Monday, Dec. 2. Cash or check donations can be brought to school by kids, dropped off at the school’s main office in an envelope marked “WLMS PTSA” or mailed to West Lake Middle School, 4600 West Lake Road, Apex, N.C. 27539.

Drama Showcase

The Drama Showcase by Cary High School students will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the school’s auditorium, 638 Walnut St. Admission costs $5; $2 for students.

IMProv at Cary High School

Students will perform in competitive IMProv shows at 7 p.m. one Friday a month from November through May in the drama studio at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. Shows will be Nov. 15, Dec. 13, Jan. 24, Feb. 14, March 21, April 11 and May 16. Admission is $2.

Band on the Run 5K

The Fuquay-Varina High School band will host the Band on the Run 5K at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at 201 Bengal Blvd., Fuquay-Varina. A mile-long fun run and walk will start at 8:30 a.m. Registration costs $25. Details: www.

Holiday Boutique

Salem Middle School in Apex will host a vendor and craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at 6150 Old Jenks Road. Admission is free. More than 25 local artists and vendors will sell their crafts to raise money for the Salem Middle School Blue Notes Jazz Choir.

Scholastic book fair

The Methodist Children’s Center of First United Church’s annual Scholastic book fair will be from 8:45-9:45 a.m. and from noon-1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, to Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Templeton Building, room 118, 121 Waldo St., Cary. Wrestling club for future Panther Creek students

Panther Creek High School athletics and CREW Wrestling will offer a wrestling program for students in third through eighth grade who plan to attend Panther Creek High School.
