Consumer-advice group NerdWallet considered factors such as population growth, median household income, average mortgage payments and unemployment rates.
Holly Springs was No. 2 on the list. The town’s population grew 19 percent between 2009 and 2012, according to NerdWallet. The median household income is $89,421, while the median monthly homeowner costs are $1,665.
Cary was No. 7, with a median household income of $91,997.
Apex placed 10th on the list. The town has a median household income of $86,782.
Indian Trail, which is about 15 miles southeast of Charlotte, earned the No. 1 ranking.
