The Middle Creek High School band won first place in Best Overall in two classes in the West Johnston Marching Band Competition on Oct. 12. The band’s woodwinds and brass sections also won Best of the Day in two classes.

Local schools receive Adopt a School Choice award

Dillard Drive Elementary and Middle schools were chosen by Home Depot of Cary to receive the Adopt a School Choice award. The award helps schools with educational and environmental projects. Dillard Drive Elementary will receive an updated outdoor classroom and planting beds for gardens. Dillard Drive Middle will receive landscaping around the school, planting beds for a garden, new benches and picnic areas.

Local student earns national honors

Lucy Ross, a senior home-schooled student in New Hill, was awarded an Honorable Mention for her work in philosophy by the Davidson Fellowship Program of the Davidson Institute for Talent Development, a foundation that supports gifted students. She was also invited to the Princeton University Creative Arts and Humanities Symposium for high school seniors that gave 90 students the opportunity to study arts or humanities with workshops and seminars by professors.

Middle Creek High School PTSA annual craft fair

Middle Creek High School’s PTSA annual holiday craft and vendor fair, Winter Wonders, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the commons at the school, 123 Middle Creek Park Ave., Apex.

55th Annual Cary Band Day

The 55th Annual Cary Band Day will be from 11:50 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Cooper Field at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. More than 4,000 students from 33 high school bands from North Carolina and Virginia will participate.

Drama Showcase

The Drama Showcase by Cary High School students will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the school’s auditorium, 638 Walnut St. Admission costs $5; $2 for students.

IMProv at Cary High School

Students will perform in competitive IMProv shows at 7 p.m. one Friday a month from November through May in the drama studio at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. Shows will be on Nov. 15, Dec. 13, Jan. 24, Feb. 14, March 21, April 11 and May 16. Admission costs $2.
