— Welsh Packaging Solutions has changed its name and is moving from Youngsville to a new 154,000-square-foot facility in Morrisville.

The 46-employee operation has adopted the name of its Los Angeles-based parent, Ernest Packaging Solutions.

“We want to sell the brand,” said Howard Hoyt, who became general manager of the company’s Raleigh-Durham division Oct. 1. Hoyt, who previously was general manager of Ernest’s San Diego division, said he grew up in southwest Virginia and jumped at the chance to be closer to family.

In November, Ernest acquired Welsh – it was called Welsh Paper Co. back then – for an undisclosed sum.

Privately held Ernest has more than 400 employees in 10 locations.

Hoyt anticipates the move will be completed in mid-November. In Morrisville, the company will distribute a range of packaging products, including boxes, crates, pallets and tape; manufacture to customers’ specifications foam used for shipping products; and handle packaging and shipping for customers.

The company anticipates hiring a handful of new employees before the end of the year, including salespeople, Hoyt said.
