Cary Girl Scout earns Silver Award

Anneka Kleine of Cary earned the Silver Award, the second highest achievement in Girl Scouting. The Silver Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout in sixth through eighth grade can earn. Anneka made scrapbooks and a scrapbook supply center for kids in the WakeMed Cary Hospital. Anneka, the daughter of John and Heidi Kleine, is a member of Girl Scout Troop #1860 led by Wanda Schramm.

Local chefs win Downtown Bounty contests

Phil Searcy of Phil’s Backyard Smokehouse Gang won first place and $300 in the Brunswick Stew Cook-Off at Fuquay-Varina’s annual Downtown Bounty event on Saturday, Sept. 14. Jay Randall of Four Oaks Bank won second place, and Kelly DeLaire and Jody Currin of Two Witches Cooking Stew won third.

Joseph Fasy of the Growers Market of Fuquay-Varina won first place in “How Local Can You Go,” a new cook-off featuring ingredients from the farmers market. Edna Morales of The Meeting Corner won second place, and Ed King of Rebecca’s Grill won third.
