Art classes at The Halle

All Things Bluegrass

Join local bluegrass musicians for free performances and discussions of North Carolina’s role in the history of bluegrass.

Jan Johansson will play and speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at West Regional Library, 4000 Louis Stephens Drive, Cary. Register at 919-463-8500.

Tommy Edwards will perform and speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Eva Perry Regional Library, 2100 Shepherd’s Vineyard Drive, Apex. Register at 919-387-2100.

Rock-painting class

Kids 10 and older will paint rocks with teacher Lynne Fisher from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Southern Charm Gift Boutique in Cary Towne Center, 1105 Walnut St., Cary. The class costs $15. Register at www.etsy.com/shop/southerncharmgifts2.

Sweet Potato Pie concert

Sweet Potato Pie, a band that plays a blend of bluegrass, country and gospel music, will play a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Apex Town Hall campus, 73 Hunter St.

Cary Town Band: Meadow Melodies

The Cary Town Band will play “Meadow Melodies,” a free concert to celebrate the end of summer, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Sertoma Amphitheatre in Bond Park, 801 High House Road, Cary.

Apex Jazz Festival

The Apex Downtown Business Association’s third annual Apex Jazz Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 21, in downtown Apex. Artists will perform along Salem Street. Tickets are $10 and include entry to all participating venues. Sponsors and volunteers are needed for the festival.

Jazz concert at The Halle

As part of the Apex Jazz Festival, The Halle Cultural Arts Center will host a jazz concert with pianist Lenore Raphael, saxophone players Ray Blue and Jerry Mandel, bassist Robbie Link and drummer Peter Ingram at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at 237 N. Salem St., Apex.

Learn about library music resources

Wake County Public Libraries staff will demonstrate the online music resources provided by the library from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Eva Perry Regional Library, 2100 Shepherd’s Vineyard Drive, Apex. Call 919-387-2100 for details.
