Photography exhibition seeks artists

The Cary Photographic Artists group is seeking entries for its sixth annual Open Juried Photographic Exhibition, which will be held from Thursday, Oct. 24, to Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Cary Senior Center, 120 Maury Odell Place, Cary. Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass Series

Tyler’s Taproom presents Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass Series on Wednesdays through Sept. 18 at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary. Shows are from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per show; kids 12 and under are admitted for free. Buy tickets from the box office or at etix.com. Here’s the schedule:

Art class with Grace Li Wang

Artist Grace Li Wang will teach two art classes for ages 12 and older from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 21, at her studio at 319 Lochside Drive, Cary. Participants will learn about art composition, color and the use of oil- and water-based materials for drawing and painting. Classes, including supplies, cost $50 each. Registration is required. Downtown Performers Series

Cary is hosting a series of free outdoor events at the downtown performance green on the corner of Academy Street and Kildaire Farm Road. For details, call 919-469-4061. Here’s the schedule:

• 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28: Claire Lynch Band, a bluegrass band.

Triangle Wind Ensemble visits libraries

The Triangle Wind Ensemble will give a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at West Regional Library, 4000 Louis Stephens Drive, Cary. Registration is required; call 919-463-8500. The ensemble will perform another free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Eva Perry Regional Library, 2100 Shepherd’s Vineyard Drive, Apex. Call 919-387-2100 to register.

Meet the Artisan: Musical Instrument Makers

Local artisans who make musical instruments will talk about their work at local libraries.

Jon Norris, who makes woodwinds, strings and percussion instruments, will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at West Regional Library, 4000 W. Louis Stephens Drive, Cary. To register, call 919-463-8500.

Family dance at The Halle

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will host family dance nights from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, and Thursday, Oct. 10, at 237 N. Salem St., Apex. Families can learn square, circle, Appalachian and more dances. Tickets are $5 per family or $2 per person.

Depot Concert Series at The Halle

The Halle Cultural Arts Center presents the 2013 Depot Concert Series. The free outdoor concerts will continue through October in the parking lot of the historic train depot at 220 N. Salem St. All shows begin at 7 p.m. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Here’s the remaining schedule:

•  Saturday, Sept. 14: Shine.

•  Friday, Oct. 11: Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line.
