Man charged with sex offenses against minor

From staff reportsAugust 12, 2013

— Police charge that a Fayetteville man repeatedly had sex with a minor teen at a Cary apartment between January and last month, and they said the girl told her mother that it began in 2009.

Ike David Simmons, 37, of 1707 Englewood Drive, faces eight counts of statutory rape, four counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of sex offense in a parental role.

In a search warrant request for a computer hard drive, CDs and a thumb drive that was confiscated from Simmons’ home on Aug. 2, police said the girl, who is now 16, told her mother on July 31 that Simmons had been having sex with her since October 2009 and that she thought he had used a cellphone to record video of one encounter.

The most recent incident the girl related to her mother was on July 26 at an apartment in Cary, the warrant says.

That time, the warrant says, the girl said Simmons gave her a blindfold to wear and said a friend wanted to make a video.

Senior Officer J.A. Young said in applying for the search warrant that incidents had happened in Cary, Apex and Parkton, in Robeson County.

Apex police charged Simmons on Aug. 1 with two counts of first-degree sex offense with a child.

Young said police interviewed Simmons the day before they searched his home and he told them he had never had intercourse with the girl.

He told police that she had tried to initiate sex with him by getting into bed with him one Saturday morning in May while her mother was away.

Simmons was being held in lieu of bail totaling $2 million.
