Downtown Cary welcomes new wave of art

From staff reportsAugust 12, 2013

Downtown Cary was a surreal scene on Friday morning. Passersby gawked behind car windows as an elephant flew through the air, a shirtless man bolted a horse to the lawn, and a crane hoisted a towering, leaf-adorned funnel across the Cary Arts Center plaza.

It was the beginning of the sixth annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition by the nonprofit Cary Visual Art. Artists, assistants and town employees installed a dozen sculptures along Academy Street and around Town Hall.

That night, the artists greeted the public at a fundraiser for Cary Visual Art.

This year’s round of sculptures included two selected by an online vote.
