From staff reportsAugust 2, 2013

— Police charged a registered sex offender Thursday with two counts of first-degree sexual offense of a child.

Ike David Simmons, 37, of Fayetteville was arrested on charges that stem from incidents in 2009, according to Apex Police Capt. Ann Stephens. The alleged victim was 12 years old at the time.

In a statement, Stephens said Simmons and the victim knew each other, but she said police would not disclose how they were acquainted.

Simmons was convicted of sex charges in military court in 2003 and registered as a sex offender, according to Stephens.

Stephens said more charges against Simmons are likely.

He was being held on $500,000 bond.
