Cary police search for thief

From staff reportsJuly 31, 2013

— Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man suspected of stealing cash from two local businesses.

Police believe the man stole money from a cash register at Walgreens at 1210 Kildaire Farm Road during the day on July 26.

The same man is suspected of swiping money an hour later from a register at an Exxon station at 1720 Walnut St.

Police viewed video footage from one of the crime scenes, according to a news release from the town of Cary. The suspect is described as a white man with an average build. He was wearing sunglasses, a dark-colored polo shirt, cargo shorts and white socks with sandals.

The man was seen leaving one of the incidents in what could have been a Chevrolet HHR, according to the town.

“It’s a very serious and special concern for us whenever larcenies occur in the middle of the day when businesses may be full of customers,” said Capt. Don Hamilton of the criminal investigations unit. “We hope these incidents remind retail store managers to be extra vigilant while conducting their normal operations.”

Anyone with information about the crimes should call police at 919-469-4012 or Cary Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIM(E). From staff reports
