Rabid fox found in Cary

— A resident encountered a dead rabid fox in the 1000 block of Valleystone Drive on Thursday, according to a news release from the town of Cary.

This is the first reported rabies case in Cary this year, according to the town. The last reported case was last August.

Cary police took the animal to the State Laboratory of Public Health, and rabies was confirmed.

The town is urging residents to be careful when dealing with suspicious animals. If you suspect an animal is rabid, or if you have a wild animal in your home, contact Cary Animal Control at 919-319-4517.
