Jason Trimm: Charitable Eagle Scout projects

Charitable Eagle Scout projects

I love reading about young men who earn their Eagle Scout awards and the projects they do to earn them. It’s usually something that benefits society in some manner.

But recently I read a project that just flabbergasted me. This young man “led a group of people to build a picnic table for his neighborhood pool area.”

Seriously? The homeowners association should pay for that. And I’m sorry, but building a picnic table is an afternoon project for most any dad.

I guess I am more disappointed in the Boy Scouts of America for allowing this project to go forward. Building a couple of picnic tables and a grill in a park in an underprivileged area would be more appropriate.

I know it takes a lot of hard work and determination to become an Eagle Scout. I just hope in the future, other Eagle Scout awardees choose more charitable projects.
