Cary Girl Scouts earn Gold Awards
Amanda Reza and Sarah Dillingham Peterson, both of Cary, earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
For her Gold Award project, Reza worked with Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve to educate the public about the protected nature park. She attended the Friends of Hemlock Bluffs meetings and collected information to inform local communities. Much of the knowledge she gathered was posted on the preserve’s website and Facebook page. Reza also created a video documentary of the nature preserve featuring filmed clips of the park’s natural habitats and beauty.
Reza is a sophomore at Enloe High School and a member of Girl Scout Troop 351.
For her Gold Award project, Peterson researched three American Revolutionary War battles that took place in North Carolina. She created a brochure for the Children of the American Revolution organization detailing the battles. She took steps to link the brochure to the website of CAR’s parent organization, the Sons of the American Revolution. She made presentations to various groups in an effort to help the community learn more about the history.
Peterson is the daughter of Grant M. and Brenda S. Peterson. She is a senior at Green Hope High School.
