In Cary, there’s plenty of downtown construction

June 7, 2013

Blueprints are becoming reality as construction gets moving in downtown Cary.

Long-discussed projects are finally underway on Chatham Street, and they’re hard to miss. A new three-story building has risen from an empty lot next to The Cary, a government renovation of an old theater that also is nearing completion. The Cary will be an arts venue, while the building next door will provide extra space and may host a commercial tenant. The project’s set for completion late this year.

Meanwhile, the twin roundabouts at the western and eastern edges of downtown have been detouring traffic and confusing drivers for weeks . When they’re done, the single-lane rings will provide gateways to downtown while simplifying intersections, according to town staff.

Drivers looking for a preview can already use part of the West Chatham Street circle.
