Apex junior pitcher Lindsay Hodge was voted Tri-9 softball Player of the Year by league coaches for the 2013 season.

Hodge, now a two-time first-team selection, was in the circle for all of the Cougars’ 15 conference wins. Apex (20-2) made it to the third round of the postseason and placed four players on the all-conference teams.

All but five of the Tri-9 selections were underclassmen.

League runner-up Middle Creek (19-5), which ended its year in the fourth round, had three sophomores on the team, while Fuquay-Varina (14-5) placed one senior, a freshman and a sophomore.

Cary (7-13) second baseman Emily Libero, who signed to play at Maryland next year, is the league’s only four-time selection.

There were three three-time all-conference selections: Nikki Hoover of Lee County (6-15), Lexi Ross of Green Hope (14-8) and Tanya Van Dyk of Athens Drive (10-13). Van Dyk made the team as a freshman, sophomore and senior.

Junior Katlyn Hillesland of Holly Springs (7-12) was the Hawks’ only selection, and Panther Creek (1-15) junior Madison Thompson was the Catamounts’ only player on either squad.

Middle Creek coach Robbie Wray was voted coach of the year by his peers. Wray was co-coach of the year last season.
