Scores of Holly Springs High School students filed through specially decked-out buses on Thursday and Friday, hoping to do some good and get out of class for a while.
It was the school’s third annual blood drive for the year. Largely coordinated by students, the effort has turned Holly Springs High School into one of Rex Healthcare’s top blood donors.
About 240 donors signed up, making it the largest two-day total since Rex started hosting blood drives at the school. The effort collected 176 units of blood – enough to provide blood transfusions to 450 to 500 recipients, according to a Rex spokesman.
Rex donates the blood to all the region’s hospitals, as well as medical facilities at Fort Bragg.
