Low, who started his career as a midfielder and scored the franchise’s first goal in 2007, is now a fixture at left back and a four-time all-league member.

“Kupono is a consummate pro and is someone that every coach would want on his team,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke in a statement. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the lineup and has been one of the top players in our league for a number of years.”

Low, 34, has been the captain for the last one and a half seasons.

He has also played for Clarke while on the Puerto Rico national team, earning three caps before modified eligibility requirements ended his career.

The re-signing of Low brings the number of defenders coming back to Carolina to four, though more signings are expected before the regular season starts in April.

Schedule finalized: The team’s spring schedule had already been announced, but last week the North American Soccer League did the same for the fall schedule. This year’s new format divides the year into two seasons, and the winners of each will meet in a one-game Soccer Bowl final.

Full season tickets are now on sale as a result.

“The new competition format is going to offer RailHawks fans an exciting, playoff-like experience every time they come out to the new WakeMed Soccer Park,” said RailHawks President Curt Johnson in a statement.

All NASL home games are on Saturdays and have kickoff times of 7 p.m.
