Shame on bullies

It is said that one way to judge character is how a person acts when no one is looking. Perhaps one way to judge our GOP governor and legislators who control our state is how they behave when they know they can get away with virtually anything.

With Senate Bill 10, which proposes to fire all state commission members and pack those commissions with political cronies, the party in control of our state legislature has abandoned all pretense of representing all the citizens of the state, instead behaving as bullies who ram through laws to benefit themselves and their friends and punish their enemies.

News reports indicate that this bill originally also proposed to pack the state Supreme Court. That’s been removed – for now – but will be revisited.

Granted, the Republicans in control now might have learned from the Democrats who controlled state government for decades, but the GOP has given us a new definition of extremism.

It’s time that legislative leaders are reminded that the corollary to “majority rule” is “minority rights.” Shame on them.
