CARY - Police say they arrested one of three men who robbed a jewelry store on Kildare Farm Road on Monday morning, but are still looking for the other two.

Police stopped Rodger Kent Williams, 41, of Philadelphia, Pa., outside J.M. Edwards Fine Jewelers at 1137 Kildare Farm Road at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report. They say Williams was one of three men carrying guns who put about $250,000 worth of merchandise from several display counters into duffel bags and exited the back door.

Williams was armed with a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and had threatened one of the store’s employees with it, according to his arrest warrant.

An employee who was upstairs in the building and heard the commotion called 911. Police said a patrol officer was able to get there in time to catch Williams as the three came out of back door of the store.

Williams surrendered without trying to use the pistol, Capt. Don Hamilton said. Some of the jewelry was recovered.

The other two men were last seen wearing hooded sweatshirts and police could only say they are thought to be black men standing approximately six feet tall. They left in an unknown vehicle parked in an adjacent parking lot.

“While we were able to nab one suspect, our concern is that these men are not from the area and may quickly flee,” said Lt. Steve Fonke with Cary’s Criminal Investigations Unit. “Anyone with any information, no matter how seemingly small of a detail, is encouraged to report it immediately so that we may bring swift justice to this business owner.”

In addition to robbery with a dangerous weapon, police charged Williams with possession of a firearm by a felon based on 1998 conviction for robbery in Pennsylvania. His records, attached to the arrest warrant, show numerous arrests in Pennsylvania.

It was not immediately clear what brought Williams to Cary, Hamilton said. Williams was being held on $250,000 bail pending a court appearance Tuesday.
