Don’t let tradition die

I was saddened to see that the water tower adjacent to Cary High School is scheduled for demolition, and with that the end of the annual tradition of honoring the graduating class.

I understand that the ever-increasing demands have made the water tower obsolete.

Here is a suggestion to keep the tradition going: Drain the tower but do not demolish it.

Let the Cary High School students maintain the property as an ongoing community service project. The sophomore and junior classes can have fundraising events throughout the year to acquire the needed funds to paint the tower to honor the senior class.

Paint the tower in the weeks leading up to the first week of classes. Unveil the new year as part of a celebration of the new senior class during that first week.

It has been a great tradition. I hate to see it end.
