Police search for grate thieves
Cary police are asking for help to find whoever has been stealing stormwater grates from parking lots around town.
Ten grates have been stolen since Dec. 31, according to the town. More than 30 have been reported stolen since July.
Police have no suspects in the larcenies, and they’re asking anyone with information to come forward. People can call the police department at 919-469-4012 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-2746. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.
“Thankfully, we’ve had no reports of injuries or property damage, but missing stormwater grates pose a threat to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike,” Lt. Steve Fonke of Cary’s criminal investigations unit said in a statement.
