CARY - A string of Cary businesses and a local library have suffered recent burglaries.

The eleven reported crime scenes have included Planet Smoothie, the Wellington Animal Hospital and the Cary Community Library.

In most of the cases, someone appeared to break through back doors or front windows. However, burglars apparently made unforced entries to two establishments, the Cary Community Library and Marlin Design Build.

“They’ve been targeting cash, going to cash registers,” said Lt. Steve Fonke of the Cary Police Department.

Police haven’t yet disclosed the exact sums that were taken.

There’s no apparent pattern to the burglaries, except that several occurred on the nights of Dec. 22 and Dec. 25. The crimes have occurred across southeast, central and western Cary.

“They’ve been all over the place,” Fonke said. “It’s actively being investigated.”
