Not free at all

I participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Raleigh National Cemetery on Dec. 15. The ceremony had a way of pricking your heart as the colors were presented and the music was played while ceremonial wreaths were placed representing the branches of the armed forces.

Retired U.S. Army Col. John I. Wood gave a speech, and I was moved as he explained to several hundred people gathered there that freedom is not free, as we see the thousands of graves of veterans of wars.

I appreciate the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution who worked hard to make sure that all went well.

James F. Sansom
