One is Ashley Clark, a 2011 Panther Creek graduate.

Now starring at Campbell University, Clark – a Tri-9 Conference Player of the Year her senior season for the Catamounts – led the Camels with 10 goals and three assists. She was named to the 2012 Big South All-Conference first team.

Stokes assists Spartans to conference title

Former Green Hope record-setter Ashley Stokes (2011), a redshirt freshman midfielder playing for UNC-Greensboro, started 12 of 15 games this season. Her contributions include two goals and three assists, helping the Spartans clinch the Southern Conference regular-season title.

PC teammates contributing

The Southern Conference is home to a number of former local players. Former Panther Creek teammates Kim Gardner (2011) and Kennedy Garrett (2012) are both playing in the league. Gardner is in her sophomore season with Elon, and Garrett is a freshman playing for UNC-Asheville.

Gardner played in 22 games this season, started four, and recorded eight shots on goal and one assist. Garrett started one of the 18 games she played in for the Bulldogs, adding three goals and one assist.

Apex’s Muller, Studnicky leading their teams

A pair of Apex graduates also are playing in the SoCon, and who knows where Western Carolina would be without freshman Markey Studnicky (2012) or where UNC-Asheville would be without sophomore Heather Muller (2011)?

Studnicky made the Southern Conference’s all-conference first team and the league’s all-freshman team. Starting for Western Carolina, she had nine goals and two assists.

Muller started every game for the Bulldogs for the second straight season, making 125 saves as goalkeeper.

Barnes’ goals prove clutch

Ellie Barnes of Fuquay-Varina (2012) earned all-conference honors this season. Barnes scored five goals, tying for fourth in the conference, and one assist. Three goals came in overtime.

Barnes’ solid season helped the Mount Olive Trojans compile a 7-10-1 record.

McHenry getting it done in goal

Getting a lot of playing time at UNC-Charlotte, Annie McHenry, formerly a Cary High player (2011), finished her sophomore season with a 4-5 record in the nine games she started in goal.

After redshirting her freshman season, McHenry finished with a 1.44 goals-against average, a .783 save percentage and 47 saves.

Shaffer returns to the field

Ashley Shaffer (2011), formerly of Green Hope, earned an Academic All-Conference selection last season but found no time on the field as she recovered from a knee injury suffered her senior season with the Falcons. This season, Shaffer had the chance to show her talents on the pitch. She recorded five points after two goals and an assist in 18 games for Georgetown.
