It has been a busy offseason so far for the Cary Invasion, a professional basketball franchise that will begin its third season of play next spring.

The Invasion have hired a new general manager and possibly a new coach, while the league announced new teams that will compete in the Tobacco Road Basketball League next year.

Thorne as new GM

Terry ‘Doc’ Thorne recently was named the team’s general manager, a position formerly held by owner, team president and associate head coach Mark Janas.

New head coach?

There has not been a formal announcement, but the Invasion’s team website lists the head coach as Christopher La Rocca.

Former head coach MarQus Johnson, now an assistant at St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, is listed as a consultant.

New teams in TRBL

There will be three new teams and a new alignment this spring in the Tobacco Road Basketball League.

The TRBL announced that the Greensboro Cobras, the (Concord) Team HoopForLyfe travel team and the (Spartanburg, S.C.) Hub City Lakers have been approved for full membership.

As a travel team, HoopForLyfe will not have any home games.

Another travel team, the Johnston County Nighthawks, will play but not be a “full member.”

The TRBL regular-season schedule will include 60 games played in cities throughout the Carolinas.

The Invasion will play in the East Division with rival Wilmington Sea Dawgs, (Jacksonville) Big Texas, the (Lumberton) Carolina Gladiators, the Fayetteville Crossover and Johnston County.

The West Division will include the (Fort Mill, S.C.) PrimeTime Players, Team HoopForLyfe, (Charlotte) Queen City Express, Hub City and Greensboro.
