Unplanned growthUnlike some you may hear from on this issue, Im a proud Democrat who is angry at the Cary Town Council, which voted to allow development at the corner of Tryon Road and Cary Parkway, despite opposition from constituents.
This is not a partisan issue. I am furious over the loss of the beautiful natural landscape that existed there, the loss of woodland, and the increase in traffic, noise and crime that will accompany the apartments that were stupidly forced onto a piece of land.
Just drive by and take a gander at the industrial heroics required to force the land to sustain the project.
I was raised in Wake County. When I was growing up in Zebulon, Cary was nearly as rural as my own hometown. Ive celebrated the growth, and I know that development is a natural progression of life in Cary. However, thoughtful, controlled development was the reason I chose Cary for my family after living in a more rural area of the Triangle.
This development is out of step with Carys record of planned growth. We are not stupid enough to think that greased palms and political favors werent part of this deal.
Im disgusted that local elected officials are participating in the total disregard of constituent interests, in preference for their personal interests. We expect political corruption at the state and federal levels, sadly. But, I cant stand by and see this blatant display of corruption happening on the local level and not express my outrage.
