Holly Springs PTSA taking pre-orders for poinsettias and cookiesThe Holly Springs High School PTSA is now taking pre-orders for holiday poinsettias or chocolate chunk cookies to help fund the Hawks of Excellence teacher grant and student scholarship programs. All poinsettias are $10 each and will come in a 6 1/2-inch pot with five to seven blooms. Chocolate chunk cookies created by Chick-fil-A of Holly Springs are $7.50 for a half dozen or $15 for a dozen. To order, email Ali at

Hopewell Academy collecting items to fund technology programHopewell Academy is collecting goods during the school year from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in the front lobby at 101 Preston Executive Drive, Cary. Currently, the academy is collecting used inkjet and toner printer cartridges, cellphones and small electronics. Apex High School seniors hold charity golf tournamentApex High School seniors

Thomas Schmedding will hold a charity golf tournament titled SHE Golfs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Wildwood Green Golf Club, 3000 Ballybunion Way, Raleigh. Cost is $28 for lunch and a round of golf. The tournament will raise money for Sustainable Health Enterprises, which empowers young girls and women in Rwanda, as well as other developing countries, to enter the business world. Cary Academy selected as 2013 Spotlight SchoolThe Lausanne Learning Institute, an international conference for schools that are utilizing laptop or tablet computers as tools for learning, has selected Cary Academy as its 2013 Spotlight School. The Institute will be held July 14-17, 2013 at the Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tenn. The Lausanne Learning Institute recognizes one school each year that is leading the way in the effective use of portable computing devices and other digital tools and resources for education.
Cary Academy will be bringing a team of teachers, administrators, staff and students to the Lausanne Learning Institute to offer a strand of sessions providing an in-depth look at technology integration efforts.
Green Hope High School to hold Holiday ShoppeThe Occupational Course of Study Department and the PTSA at Green Hope High School will hold its annual Holiday Shoppe on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Donations are appreciated and are currently being collected. Donations can be placed in the OCS Drop Off Box located in the main office until Tuesday, Dec. 11.
