Lorraine R. LaBelle Gustafson, 79, of 607 Ralph Drive, Cary, NC died on Sunday, October 14, 2012. Lorraine was born in Brockton, MA, daughter of Raymond E. and Rosa J. LaBelle. She attended Brockton High School, graduating with honors in 1950. She was acknowledged as an outstanding athlete. She then attended and graduated cum laude from Bridgewater State Teacher’s College. Lorraine’s 30 year career as an elementary school teacher was highlighted by her involvement in environmental issues. She received many awards both locally and nationally for promoting programs that emphasized beautification and environmental awareness and animal protection. She also received awards as an outstanding science teacher and teacher-of-the-year. Her many activities included golf, bridge, traveling, swimming, crafts, shelling, and hiking. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her generosity and caring personality.

Survivors include her husband Allan of sixty years, her eldest daughter Lorri, her youngest son Allan Jr., and her youngest daughter Lisa. There is no public memorial and her ashes are to be dispersed, as requested. Donations to Hospice of Wake County in lieu of flowers.
