SANFORD - The friendly confines of McCracken Field at Paul B. Gay Stadium have been pretty good to Lee County High this season.

The written schedule says there is just one more home game left for the Yellow Jackets, but after a 38-14 victory against visiting Green Hope Friday night, Lee could have a few more dates left.

The Yellow Jackets (7-2, 5-1) are still poised to finish second in the Tri-9 Conference and could be in position to host one or more playoff games. And that’s OK with senior running back Ray J. McCauley, who scored two touchdowns, given that his team has lost just once at home (to Richmond County) this season.

“Like coach said, we’ve got something special,” McCauley said. “We’ve got a lot of chemistry.”

Lee controlled the game from start to finish, but was able to effectively put away the Falcons (4-5, 2-4) with two touchdowns in the last 1 minute, 36 seconds of the first half.

A fumble recovery led to a 19-yard touchdown pass from Chase Arrington to Dante Graham, while a recovered an angled kickoff set up a 10-yard scoring pass from Arrington to McCauley.

The Yellow Jackets have scored at least 35 points in seven of its games, and it starts with the offensive line – five seniors whose average size is 6-foot-3, 265 pounds.

“I think we’ve got one of the best offensive lines,” McCauley said.

Lee County went on top first with McCauley’s 10-yard run in the first quarter.

Kicker Ben Grossfuss hit a 20-yard field goal, followed by Arrington’s two touchdown passes just before halftime to give the Jackets a 24-0 lead.

Matthew Givens ran in a 1-yard touchdown and 24-yard touchdown in the second half to make it 38-0 at one point. Green Hope scored late in the fourth on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Chris Tutwiler to Mitchell Chalker and a 5-yard run from Elijah Murrane.

The Falcons are still in need of a win to feel confident about making it to its first playoffs since 2004, and play Cary and Panther Creek in the final two weeks.
