Chesterbrook AcademyFourth and fifth grade students from Chesterbrook Academy in Cary visited Durham U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on Sept. 7 to witness their teacher, Brigitte Karin Reithinger, become a citizen of the United States. The students watched as Reithinger, a math and science teacher originally from Germany, pledged the Oath of Allegiance along with her husband and 44 other citizenship candidates during the naturalization ceremony.
During the visit, students engaged in a discussion about the immigration and naturalization process with field officer Jeffrey Sapko and met representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution dressed in period costumes. Students surprised Reithinger by singing patriotic songs and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance after she completed her citizenship ceremony requirements.
