Tolls for ghostsI will never ever under any circumstances drive on the Triangle Expressway. Upon hearing about the future project, I was very excited for an alternative to get from southern Cary to Interstates 40 and 540. The interchange that will open in December near Holly Springs and Kildaire Farm Roads would have been the interchange closest to my home. Since than I have discovered that the stretch of 18.1 miles each direction will cost me $5.60 round trip. I will not be going through an elaborate costly tunnel nor an expansive bridge, just 36 miles of concrete.
North Carolina has the sixth highest gasoline tax in the country. Our overall per capita income ranks 35th. Our neighbor to the north, Virginia, ranks 40th in gasoline tax and seventh in income. Our neighbor South Carolina ranks 47th in gasoline tax and 45th in income.
I have crossed over the toll road numerous times and at numerous locations and it looks like a ghost road! What are we doing with all of this gasoline tax money? I really hope Triangle citizens will boycott the ridiculous toll and the state will have to come up with an alternative or turn it into a great bike way.
