Paying those pensions

The News & Observer recently reported on the retirements of Raleigh Police Chief Harry Dolan, age 54, after serving five years in that position, and DMV chief Mike Robertson, age 64, after serving three years in that position. Both good men, I’m sure, and difficult to replace.

However, in view of recent national reports on excessive retirement pensions for public employees, I cannot help but wonder what these men will receive as lifetime pensions for rather brief service in their respective positions. I was disappointed that the articles reporting on the retirements omitted information on the salary history of these individuals and the retirement benefits they will receive.

As an overburdened taxpayer in Wake County, I believe I have a right to know this information. I look forward to The N&O’s doing a follow-up article to report this financial information.
