There is no definition for the term “assault rifle.” It is an inflammatory term coined by the media and based on the looks of the rifle.

Rifles are either manual (bolt action), semi-automatic (one trigger squeeze gives one shot) or automatic (one trigger squeeze gives multiple shots). To legally possess an automatic rifle requires a federal permit.

So please, since there is no such thing as an “assault rifle,” stop using the term and remember the words of Benjamin Franklin: “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
