Concerning the Duke Energy/Progress Energy merger, if there were ever a more obvious solution staring the Utilities Commission in the face it is this: Just reverse the merger.

Two giant corporations became one supergiant corp, the largest utility in the nation. This is yet another case of always thinking that giganticism is best. We always hear of the “efficiencies” these mergers create although both companies were already efficient.

If reversed, the general public will never know the difference, the CEOs will be happy (Duke wanted out anyway) and those workers losing their jobs will be grateful.

If reversal causes me to pay a few more pennies per month, or day, so be it. The commission should solve this mess in one fell swoop.
