Cary High School graduate selected as Triangle Rising Star
The Durham Performing Arts Center and Theatre in the Park hosted the second annual Triangle Rising Star Awards inviting finalist from six different counties within the Triangle area to audition on the DPAC stage on June 2. The finalists were picked from a pool of over 20 applicants through an audition process highlighting their leading roles from their high school musical in the 2011/2012 season. Joshua Williams
, a Cary High School graduate, was selected as one of the 2012 Triangle Rising Star Recipients. In addition to receiving a $500 academic scholarship, Williams will go on to represent the Triangle region at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards from June 20-26. He will have the opportunity to travel to New York City to experience five days of private coaching, master classes and rehearsals with theater professionals that will culminate with the fourth annual National High School Musical Theater Awards.Panera Bread raises $6,300 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation
The Panera Bread in Apex held a Family Fun fundraising event to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation on May 26. Over $6,300 was raised with 43 “shavees” consisting of men, women and children. There were also children’s activities and a raffle.
Christina DaSilveira, the owner of the Charismatic Salon in Apex, and her husband, Ruben, spent four hours of their personal time and brought $150 worth of gift cards to be included in the raffle.Compiled by staff writer Michelle Ferencak
