Henry Frazier III, N.C. Central’s football coach, was arrested Monday in Morrisville and charged with assault on a female.

According to the Morrisville police, Frazier and his wife, LaNier, had an argument early Monday morning at their residence in Morrisville and Frazier assaulted her.

The police found evidence of an assault and subsequently arrested Frazier. The police responded to the original domestic assault report at 12:17 a.m. and arrested Frazier, who had left his house, and took him to the Wake County jail. Frazier was released under a $1,500 bond and has a court date scheduled for June 22.

Frazier, 44, did not respond to phone calls seeking comment on Wednesday. A university spokesperson issued a statement that acknowledged Frazier’s arrest.

“NCCU does not condone any action or activities of students, faculty and staff that violate city, county, state or federal laws,” the statement read. “The university’s expectation of high ethical standards applies to our entire campus community. As this is a legal matter, the jurisdictions involved will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.”

Frazier was hired by N.C. Central in Dec. 2010 to rebuild its football program and lead it through the transition to the Division I, Football Championship Subdivision level.

NCCU went 2-9 in Frazier’s first season, its first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

Frazier earned a reputation at Prairie View A&M and Bowie State as a program builder. The Eagles have had four straight losing seasons, under three different coaches, since 2007.

Frazier turned around a moribund Prairie View program before taking the NCCU job. Prairie View had lost 80 straight games before Frazier ended his seven-year tenure with 9-1, 9-1 and 7-4 records his last three seasons.

Earlier this month, he told the Durham Sports Club he was building “something special” at N.C. Central.

“We are doing it the right way,” Frazier said on May 2. “Our student-athletes are going to represent N.C. Central, Durham and the state of North Carolina very well, but it’s going to take time.”
