One hundred and thirty-five members of the Athens Drive High School Band will perform at Walt Disney World for two performances during Spring Break. The band will play a concert at Downtown Disney on April 3 and march down Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom on April 5.
The Cary High School Navy JROTC cadets competed in the Navy JROTC Area Six Meet in Drill, Academics, Inspection and Athletics to determine an area champion of the 67 NJROTC units from the combined North and South Carolina area on Feb. 24-25.
The cadets competed in a total of ten events. Cary High School won the Academic Championship and the Drill Championship finishing first in three and second in one of the five drill events. The Cary cadets also finished fourth in the Personnel Inspection event.
Cadet Donna Supple led the Area Champion Cary Color Guard Team and Brian Schmid led the Area Champion Armed Regulation Team as well as the Armed Exhibition Drill Team to a second place finish. Nereidia Rodriguez led the Area Champion Unarmed Drill Team as well as the Unarmed Exhibition Team to a fourth place finish.
The Cary Cadets placed overall in fourth place and finished first place in four and one second place in one of the ten events.
In individual drill competition, Tim Strom, Andy Kucmeirz and Kevin Dai all placed in the top ten in Knockout Drill.
The Atlantic Indoor Association has selected the Green Hope High School band program to host a Winter Indoor Guard and Percussion competition on Saturday, March 24. Volunteers are needed. To sign up, visit http://bit.ly/A91TCh.
Holly Springs High School will offer a hands-on program to area teens and their parents about safe driving called StreetSafe from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at 5329 Cass Holt Road. Check-in will be at 8:45 a.m. The hands-on driving program taught by police officers, highway patrolmen, firemen, judges and insurance executives was designed and developed to change the driving behaviors that cause crashes, DWIs, injuries and death of teen drivers. Primrose School at the Park and the Children’s Miracle Network is asking parents to submit a 30-second video of their family’s best dance moves until Friday, March 23. Each week the four videos with the most votes will advance to the finalist round. Contestants can upload their videos to
