FARMINGTON WOODS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLFarmington Woods Elementary School students celebrated "Love the World Day: A Celebration of Our Cultures, Our Global Connections and Our Call to Action" on Feb. 14.The school partnered with the International Red Cross to support children around the world. Fifth-grade students led the efforts to collect items needed for kits. Students will prepare the kits and include a note to the child receiving the gift.Students, staff and volunteers also helped to create a paper heart in the form of a global mosaic design. This mosaic will be a reminder of the love and caring students learned about on Feb. 14 in the school's global community.GREEN HOPE HIGH SCHOOLGreen Hope High School is one of four N.C. nominees for the U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools Award, recognizing schools for reducing environmental impact on their communities, promoting healthy school environments, and offering high-quality environmental education. Winners will be announced April 23.KOHL'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMKohl's Department Stores is accepting nominations for outstanding young volunteers for the 2012 Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program.Nominations for kids ages 6-18 will be accepted until March 15. Nominators must be at least 21 years old. The West Cary team placed eighth in the overall competition. Other members of the team are Kunal Thakur, Larry Zang and Sujay Kestur.
