Susan S. Hawkins, 72, wife of Ralph O. Hawkins, DDS, passed on to eternal life on January 17, 2012. She was born in Albany, NY on August 23, 1939, daughter of Royal G. Shannonhouse II and Mary Sue Poe Shannon-house. She was raised in Pittsboro, NC and graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1958. She earned her BS in Business and Masters in Economics from NC State University. She was a retired employee of IBM.

Susan was a devoted member of St Paul's Episcopal Church from 1969-2012. Her greatest joy was sharing many adventures with her four grandchildren. Nanoo, as she was lovingly called, opened her heart and home to many. She was a lover of nature, both flora and fauna. She always brightened the corner wherever she was.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Royal G. Shannonhouse III. She is survived by brother, the Rev T Gordon Shannonhouse, husband Ralph O. Hawkins, DDS, daughters Dana H. Hatch and Myra R. Hawkins and grandchildren Daniel A. Hatch, Caroline B. Hatch, Christopher S. Lindsay and Julia L. Lindsay.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 221 Union St., Cary at 2:00pm Sunday January 22. The service will be followed immediately by a celebration of her life in the parish hall.
