Ed Gawf (Cary downtown manager) is the one who needs "to step back and think differently about signage downtown" before he suggests a neon and LED marquee for the old theater. He also needs some indoctrination in the history and personality of Cary and of the people who live here and like it without neon or LED signs.
You're not in Scottsdale (Ariz.) any longer, Ed. Get to know your new town before proposing radical ideas.
It took some effort for the town to get rid of neon signs about 15 years ago, and we don't want to go back down that road.
Downtown Cary is badly in need of major renovations, but they require careful thought and implementation to preserve and enhance the character of the town. Many previous renovations have not worked out well; driving through Cary on Chatham Street is not very impressive despite new sidewalks and lamp posts. The town still looks rundown and a bit seedy with just a bit of nice here and there.Wayne EberhardtCary
