The United Way of the Greater Triangle is seeking volunteers for the 100,000 Homes Campaign, a national three-year program aimed at housing 100,000 vulnerable, homeless individuals and families by 2013.
People interested in being part of the 100,000 Homes Campaign can participate as survey volunteers or data-entry volunteers. Training will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 22 at the United Way of the Greater Triangle, 2400 Perimeter Park Drive, Morrisville.
Survey volunteers will be part of a team led by experienced outreach workers to canvass the streets and shelters administering surveys to homeless people. Canvassing the streets will take place from 3:45 to 7 a.m. Jan. 24-26 and canvassing the shelters will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Jan. 24-25.
Data-entry volunteers will be entering completed surveys into the database at the United Way of the Greater Triangle offices. Date-entry volunteers are needed for at least one four-hour shift from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 24-26.

Rex Healthcare is accepting applications from nonprofits for its grant program. The application deadline for new grants is Friday. Grants will be awarded in June for the fiscal year that starts July 1.

Wake County residents will be able to take recyclable holiday materials to the convenience center on 6000 Old Smithfield Road in Apex until Sunday. The center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Holiday materials that will be accepted include Christmas trees, wrapping paper, holiday greeting cards, corrugated cardboard, chipboard, SBS Board, magazines and catalogs.
Lake Crabtree County Park, 1400 Aviation Parkway in Morrisville will accept Christmas trees from 8 a.m. to sunset until Sunday.
