Griffis, former councilman, dies

Former Cary Councilman Thomas "Tom" Griffis Sr, 87, died Tuesday.

The Cary native was active in the community, once serving as Cary Fire Department volunteer and as a church usher for Greenwood Forest Baptist Church.

Visitation services were held Thursday. Flowers and memorial contributions can be made to the Greenwood Forest Baptist Church Bus Fund, 110 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.

Former Kroger sold in Cary

Kroger has sold a former grocery store in Cary that had been under consideration for a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. sold the vacant store for $4.1 million to The Crown Cos., a real estate firm in Dobson. The sale was recorded Dec. 20 by the Wake County Register of Deeds.
