My husband and I are new residents of Cary. This was our first time attending the Christmas parade. We ended up sitting on the steps of the Cary Arts Center. Despite it being the parade ending point, it was an awesome view.
After the Cary Dance Studio marched by, they proceeded to pile up on the steps, where onlookers were already in place. A lady with a glittery megaphone (we assume to be their leader) wanted people to move from their seats, so that their group could take a picture.
The disruption and blocking of views was very rude, and it upset many people. I explained to her that we all came to see the parade, and suggested they take pictures at the end.
"We always take pictures here," she replied. Just because it was always done, it doesn't mean it was best for all involved!
Another dance team in black tuxedo tails and red shirts did the same thing. One of their associates told a parent to go to the curb if she wanted to see her child, and that they would get the steps roped off next year so people can't sit there. A nearby father also voiced his distaste of the interruptions, and he was also disrespected.
As newcomers we found these displays disheartening. What message are we sending our children? Is peace on earth really for all men, or just a select few!
