Mission: Our mission is giving kids an appetite for reading. We work with students from kindergarten to fifth grade who are not reading at grade level and help them improve their reading and comprehension skills. We have mobile classrooms that bring meals and books to the children where they live.
"Part of our strategic goal for 2012 is that we will serve 744 children and give (away) 17,000 books in Wake County," said Program Coordinator Kati Mullan, with Read and Feed.
Donations Needed: Gently used kindergarten to fifth-grade books that we give to the children to keep.
Volunteers Needed: Reading tutors are always needed. We currently have 250 children enrolled in our program and strive for a 2-to-1 student-to-tutor ratio.
Minimum Volunteer Time: 1-2 hours a week for 12 weeks.
$10 would buy: The Spectrum workbook and school supplies for one child.
$20 would buy: School supplies and meals for five weeks for one child
$50 would buy: Meals for one child for the 12-week semester.
