CARY HIGH SCHOOL

The Cary High JROTC cadets raised the flag, participated in a display of the colors and the drill team marched during a Veterans Day celebration. A National Guard veteran of the Iraqi War and state Rep. Jennifer Weiss of Cary spoke at the event. A reception followed the ceremony where veterans were shown a video created by JROTC students to honor high school staff and family of staff who served in the military.

CHOICE STUDENT ASSIGNMENT PLAN

The Wake County Public School System is beginning a series of information sessions designed to walk parents through the new Choice Student Assignment Plan for 2012-13. A session will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at West Regional Library, 4000 Louis Stephens Drive, Cary. For details, visit www.wcpss.net/news/2011_nov3_info-sessions .

OAK GROVE ELEMENTARY

Students at Oak Grove Elementary enjoyed a performance by Food Play in October. FoodPlay is a national award-winning theater show promoting healthy eating and exercise habits. Children followed the antics of Johnny Junkfood, learned how to interpret TV commercials, decipher food labels and make food choices that are good for their health and good for the health of the planet. The performance was sponsored by Oak Grove PTA.

PENNY ROAD ELEMENTARY

Penny Road Elementary School will hold a kindergarten open house at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at 10900 Penny Road, Cary. For information, contact the school office at 919-387-2136.

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS

Nonprofit organization CETUSA - Council for Educational Travel, USA - is offering five scholarships to U.S. high school students to study in Germany for the 2012-13 academic year. The Founder's Scholarship Program offers five qualified American students, ages 15-18, a 10-month academic year program where they will attend a local high school, live with a host family and experience the daily life, language and culture of Germany.
