It was a high honor and great privilege to serve as guardians for World War II veterans on the Oct. 26 Flight of Honor to the nation's capital.
This was a fitting tribute to these men and women who sacrificed for the freedom of our country nearly 70 years ago.
We were rewarded as we looked into the eyes of veterans as they saw the World War II Memorial. The memorial is a tribute to them and what they did.
Each one has a story to tell, and each will carry memories to their graves.
We were overwhelmed by their accounts of courage, pride and love for our country.
All veterans showed modesty, as doing no more for America than was expected of every freedom-loving citizen during the time of war.
At a time when we are losing World War II veterans every day, we say thanks through the memorial.
Should you encounter a veteran, please take a moment to say thank you, give them a pat on the back and warm handshake. We live in freedom today for what they were willing to give.
Tom Brokaw certainly got it right in his book, when he stated that World War II veterans are a part of the Greatest Generation.
